Strategy
ENPSIT works towards a European policy for public service interpreting and translation, which is enforced at a national level. The organisation commits to several strategic approaches in order to achieve this overarching objective. ENPSIT aims to…:
- Bring all stakeholders together who are in one way or another involved in the field of PSIT. By stakeholders, we mean both organisations offering translation and interpreting services and those in need of translators’ and interpreters’ services, academic partners, certifying bodies, etc.
- Improve the quality of PSIT provision by collaborating on PSIT training programmes, assisting trainers and pointing to the importance of certification to be able to ensure high-quality services. After all, it is every person’s right to get access to high-quality language support in public service provision.
- Raise awareness among public service providers about the multilingual context they work in. Relying on a professional interpreter to facilitate communication may be the best choice depending on the context and the stakes of a conversation held with people with a migratory or refugee background. It is crucial to acknowledge public service interpreting and translation as necessary instruments within a European integration policy that incorporates diversity and equal opportunities.
- Encourage PSIT-related research. Research into PSIT practices and contexts has been growing, but needs continuous encouragement to keep pace with evolutions on the ground.
- Develop and implement a strategy to consolidate the institutional framework for PSIT, including European quality standards for public service interpreting and translation.
In order to reach those objectives, ENPSIT continues to build a network of PSIT stakeholders, targets policy makers, makes its expertise available through research projects, assists in turning short-term high-potential projects into sustainable measures, and organises activities to reach a broader public and network. These activities include the publication of newsletters to share the latest updates on PSIT, webinars on PSIT-related themes and the triannual InDialog conference.
